“I have always loved music. Before I could play the cello, I’d poorly dance my way through songs and listen to iTunes over and over again. Outside of music, I am a passionate sports fan and gym goer. Many of my weekends are spent watching games on television or checking the ESPN app. When I’m not following a sporting match or practicing the cello, you can find me in the VADL lab, hanging out with my friends, or procrastinating my homework.”

“I’m the head drum major of Zephyrus Drum & Bugle Corps and have been for the 2024 & 2025 seasons. I’m the cymbal section leader for the Spirit of Gold Drumline. I play tenor saxophone in the Anchor of Sound Basketball Band. I also play oboe in the University Concert Band. I am a transfer student from Oklahoma State. I’m a huge fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder & the Denver Broncos.”

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Trevor Hyun is a fourth-year student at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a minor in Viola Performance. He studies piano with Sun-A Park, viola with David Samuel, and conducting with Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi, and has previously studied with Amy Dorfman, Karen Ann Krieger, and Kathryn Plummer.

As an active soloist and collaborative musician, Trevor has performed at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu, and Studio 909. He has won top prizes in the Hawaii State Music Competition, MTNA, and Osaka International Music Competition, and has been featured in Blair’s Student Showcase and Chamber Spotlight. He has attended the Bowdoin, Adamant, Brevard, and the Hawaiʻi Chamber Music Festivals, where he has studied with Jon Nakamatsu, Marina Lomazov, and Jihea Hong-Park. He appeared in masterclasses with Boris Berman, Conrad Tao, Janice Carissa, and Inon Barnatan. This past summer, Trevor performed piano trios alongside violinists Stefan Jackiw and Moni Simeonov as a featured alumnus of the Hawai’i Chamber Music Festival.

Trevor serves as Music Director of the Vanderbilt Commodore Orchestra in his fourth and final year with the ensemble, previously serving as Assistant Conductor and Librarian. He has served as Principal violist for both the Vanderbilt University Orchestra and Vanderbilt Commodore Orchestras, and has appeared as a soloist with the Telemann Concerto for 2 Violas alongside the Hawaii Youth Symphony. Outside of music, he enjoys cooking and trying new restaurants, going on walks, and drinking coffee whenever it’s available.
